FOTD: Back to Basics: Angelic Nude

At the Australian Beauty Bloggers Weekend just passed, FACE OF AUSTRALIA introduced us to  4 of their new looks:

  • Angelic Nude
  • Baby Doll
  • Sleek Sophisticate
  • Morning After
For today's FOTD I decided to do my take on the "Angelic Nude" look as part of my "Back to Basics" series.

Here's the official photo:

Images courtesy of FACE OF AUSTRALIA and are not to be reproduced, republished or reused. Images remain the property of FACE OF AUSTRALIA

Basically, the look entails natural foundation, lightly flushed cheeks, nude eyes and a soft pink pout.

Because I am me, I can never go without eyeliner and eyeshadow, so I've added that to the look :D I didn't use much powder of concealer to keep the look "real". I know it look slightly different from the official image, I've just adapted it to my tastes and preferences. I need to have defined eyes all the time, lest I look like a 12 year old! :)

Here is my interpretation of the "Angelic Nude" look:

    Face
    Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation
    FACE OF AUSTRALIA Translucent Powder
    Illamasqua Cream Blush in Rude

IRL these shadows were a lot less shimmery and quite matte.
    Eyes
Urban Decay Naked Palette- Half Baked and Smog
    Napoleon Perdis China Doll Eyeliner
    Sublime de Chanel Mascara

    Lips
FACE OF AUSTRALIA Lipstick in Silver Rose

SEE HOW LITTLE PRODUCTS I'VE USED!?

I really like this lipstick- it works perfectly on my skin tone and is really moisturising. PLUS it has SPF 30+!!! Perfect for the harsh QLD summer.

I'd love to see you guys do an "Angelic Nude" interpretation so PLEASE leave me a link in the comments.

Back to the Basics- My Favourite Sheer Pink Lip Glosses

Sometimes I get so caught up in the hype of beauty trends that I begin to loose my "natural" beauty under the piles and piles of product I put on my face.

For example, on a daily basis I wear:
    • Serum
    • Moisturiser
    • Primer
    • Eye Cream
    • Eyelid Primer
    • Foundation
    • Concealer
    • Powder
    • Contour
    • Blush
    • Highlighter
    • Eyeshadow
    • Eyeliner
    • Mascara
    • Brow Pencil
    • Lip Pencil
    • Lipstick
Love your style, Mimi, but it's just not me!

It can all get a little bit overwhelming and time consuming at times, so I've decided to strip Back to the Basics and adopt a "less is more" mind set. After all "Minimal Chic" is so sheek this season.

So here are my Favourite Sheer Pink Lipglosses aka "My Go To Lip Product When I Can't Be Bothered":

L-R: FOA Morning Mist, Castle Dew Oversetting Gloss No 33, Chanel Glossimer No 89

    FOA Morning Mist

This a new release and I was blessed enough to receive one at the Australian Beauty Bloggers Weekend FOA Masterclass (what a mouth full).

It's a sheer rosy pink with silver micro shimmer. The applicator is a glorious doe foot and the formula is sticky enough to stick to the lips but not of molasses consistency (WIN)

Castle Dew Oversetting Gloss No 33

This little beauty is from a wee tiny Korean shop in Brisbane called "Cozy Corner". It's a cool based pink with silver micro shimmer. The formula is quite thick (in a good way) and once it's on the lips it doesn't budge. It's really a lovely product and I do use this one on a daily basis.

This one also has a doe foot applicator and an awesome lid that looks like a blingy crown! YAY!

    Chanel Glossimer No 89

What's a Haute and Stylish post without a bit of Chanel right?

This gloss is more on the Rosy side but is incredibly sheer once applied. When I received it from StrawberryNet, I was a bit worried it'd be too dark but low and behold it's perfect. The pink and silver microshimmer throughout the gloss give an air of sophistication and fun :)

The formula is super smooth with no grit and applies like a dream using the doe foot applicator. This is my favourite of all the three.

So what do you guys think of the "Less is More" trend? Do you tend to get carried away with make-up like I do?

    Thanks for stopping by,

"No Make Up" Make Up FOTD

After watching the ultra-inspiring tutorial by Lisa Eldridge, below, on "No Make Up" make up I decided I just HAD to try it (after plucking up courage from my adoring partner, Alberto).

    Here's the tutorial:

So, usually I never leave the house without a face full of slap, so this was a bit of a challenge for me. I almost felt naked walking through the doors at work and I could just tell everyone was double glancing at my bear face. Here it is:

    Face
    Chanel Pro Lumiere Foundation #20
    Illamasqua Undereye Concealer
Face of Australia Stick Foundation as concealer

    Cheeks
    Illamasqua Cream Blush in Laid
    Illamasqua Gleam Cream as highlighter

    Eyes
    Chanel Sublime Mascara
Napoleon Perdis Eyeliner Pencil in Brown smudged into the lash line

    Lips
The Body Shop Custom Lip and Cheek Tint

I'm really going to miss taking FOTD pics at work- I have the BEST lighting there :(

I got some really lovely feedback from my co-workers saying that I looked really "pretty" and "natural". One male co-worker even said I had "some what attractive features"! WIN!

Will any of you guys try this look? I think I'll wear this on a lazy Sunday- as pretty as it is, it's just not "me" and I feel self conscious. Bring on the dark shadow!!

Battle of the Price Points- PRIMERS

    Hey Beauties!

I'm going to be doing a new segment on my blog called "Battle of the Price Points". In this segment I will be comparing three different beauty products ranging from low to high price points! I want to show everyone that you can be beautiful and fabulous no matter what your budget and which products it's worth to splurge or save on.

I hope you all find these segments helpful, and just remember everyone is different so my opinions are not the be all and end all :) If you have a difference in opinion of one of my reviews, please comment in the box below. Diversity is the spice of life!

My first Battle of the Price Points is PRIMERS.

I've been trying to find the perfect primer for AGES and have been trialling the below three for about 2 months now.

I've been trialling Le Blanc de Chanel, MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage and FACE OF AUSTRALIA Face Base Primer.

The Contenders L-R- Le Blanc de Chanel, MAC Prep + Prime, FOA Face Base Primer

High Price Point Primer: Le Blanc de Chanel 30ml RRP: $84.00

    What Chanel Says:
"Ingenious multi-tasking fluid 'primes' skin perfectly for makeup, while adding subtle contours and radiance to the face. A unique blend of powders reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines for smooth, even, flawless finish"

    What I say:

    Pros:
    • Love the glass bottle packaging
    • Thin fluid glides easily on the skin
    • Hydrates skin
    • Cancels out redness and pigmentation and brightens complexion
    • "Fills in" lines around my mouth and eyes
    • Makes foundation glide easily onto skin
    • A little of the product goes a loooooong way
    Cons:
    • The price- $84.00 OUCH!
    • Getting the product out of the bottle- I don't think Chanel really though about this. AT ALL. You can't turn the bottle upside down on your hand to get the product out (I did this and it went EVERYWHERE! Not happy, Jan!), instead you need to use the white stick applicator thingy to get the product out of the bottle to dab it on your face. Weird. I've already lost said applicator thing.
    • The fluid is really really thin, like almost water thin. You really need to concentrate on ensuring the fluid does not splash all over your bench when you apply it.

    Le Blanc de Chanel

Mid Price Point- MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage 30ml RRP: $45

    What MAC Says:
"An ultra-fluid lotion formulated with special-effect silicones. Calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil, and evens out skin redness. Improves the laydown and application of foundation or powder."

    What I Say:

    Pros:
    • Sleek black packaging
    • Easy to use pump applicator so you get the right amount of product each time
    • Hydrates skin perfectly
    • Makes foundation glide smoothly onto skin without patching
    • Reduces oiliness and shine on T-Zone during the day
    • Evens out skin tone and brightens complexion
    • Makes foundation last that little bit extra longer
    Cons:
    • I can not fault this product. It's perfect for me and I absolutely love it!

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage

Low Price Point: FACE OF AUSTRALIA Face Base Primer 50ml RRP: $11.95

    What FOA Says:
"FACE OF AUSTRALIA Face Base Primer is specially formulated to apply under your foundation to improve your complexion and assist make-up last longer. Face Base Primer contains Vitamin E to nourish and hydrate skin and chamomile to smooth your complexion, leaving it fresher and brighter, ready for foundation application. FACE OF AUSTRALIA Face Base Primer fills fine lines for a more balanced surface, so that your foundation applies evenly and stays on longer for all-day flawless skin"

    What I Say:

    Pros:
    • Fantastic Price!
    • Product can be bought in a plethora of stores
    • Incredibly hydrating and soothing on the skin (thanks to the Chamomile in the product)
    • Plumps and fills fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes and mouth
    • Reduces shine on T-Zone (not as long lasting as the MAC Primer, though)
    • Evens out skin tone
    • Oil free so it won't clog pores
    • Foundation glides easily onto skin
    • A little product goes a loooong way!
    Cons:
    • Caused my Chanel foundation to "slide" slightly during the day- this primer is best used in conjunction with a FOA foundation- which really isn't an issue as I ALWAYS use FOA Foundation :)
    • Be careful getting the product out of the bottle- I was a bit overzealous and squeezed too hard and it squirted on my top :(

    FOA Face Base Primer

    Conclusion:
So as you can see, price DOES NOT equal quality. I'm definitely keeping the MAC and FOA Primers in my kit and I'm not going to re-purchase the Chanel. It was a bit of a joke really.

I hope this was helpful to everyone! What Primers do you use? What was a joke for you? I'd love the know!

    Keep it Haute!

    Anni xox

Disclaimer: I purchased both the Chanel and MAC primers with my own money. The FOA Primer was kindly sent to me to trial. This did not, in any way shape or form influence my thoughts on the product. I will always be honest and real in every review that I do.

    FOTD- Dramatic Winged Eye

Today's FOTD is a DRAAAAAAMATIC winged eye with neutral lips and natural skin!

    Hope you all like!

"Hmm should I really buy some more lipstick?"

And a close up of the eyes and lips:
I *tried* to get a straight line by using scotch tape as a stencil on my lids. Any stray black bits were erased with FACE OF AUSTRALIA make up remover and a cotton tip.

Lips achieved by lining with Chanel Lip Liner in "Peche" and Illamasqua Lipstick in "Obey" over the top

    What I used:

    Base
    FOA Face Base Primer
    Chanel Pro Lumiere Foundation #20
Illamasqua Powder Foundation (not sure of the colour- it's not on the back!)

    Cheeks
FOA Pressed Powder in Bronze- used as a contour

    Eyes
    FOA Black Liquid Eye Liner
    Scotch Tape as a stencil
Some random black eyeshadow that was roaming around my beauty kit

    Lips
    Chanel Lip Liner "Peche"
    Illamasqua Lipstick in "Obey"

As usual, I have not retouched my pics and I've used harsh lighting so I "real" and "natural".

Please let me know what you all think! If you want me to do a certain "look" let me know and I'll try my hardest!

    Keep it Haute!
