FOTD- Super Sweet "1950's" Modern Work Look!

Feeling particularly "Mad Men" on this day, I decided to put on my pearls and create a somewhat modern "1950's" look!

Basically, it's very feminine, fresh and accentuates the natural features of my face.

Face
Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation #8
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer
Chanel Vitalumiere Powder Foundation #20

Cheeks
Benefit Sugarbomb Blush

Eyes
Chanel Illusion d'Ombre Emerveille all over lid
Chanel Illusion d'Ombre Ebloui in crease and lower lash line
Designer Brand white eyeliner on lower water line
Napoleon Perdis China Doll liner
Manicare "Glam Eyes" Demi Lashes

Lips
Chanel Glossimer
All the shades look the same on the lips so really I don't need to tell you which one. Btw, now that we are talking Glossimers, you really need to only ever invest in one, because seriously they LOOK ALL THE SAME!!

CLOSE UP!

I've been wearing this look to death lately. I think it's really flattering and appropriate for work without being too over the top. It's also really quick to apply in the morning and the Illusion d'Ombres last all day without creasing.

Hope you enjoyed!

The Makeup Utopia- Mermaid FOTD

This FOTD is for The Makeup Utopia's FOTD challenge. Each fortnight, a different topic is given, this weeks being "Mermaid"

For my look, I tried to give areas of my skin a "scale-like" texture.  This is to show the "half fish, half human" quality of a mermaid. I did the scales rather sporadically as a Mermaid isn't fully a marine creature, but she's also not 100% human either.

Oh, and my Mermaid likes pearls!

I used a lot of blues, purples and white pigments in this look... my mermaid likes her cool toned colours!

Hope you enjoyed! Don't forget to check out other people's submissions here

FOTD featuring Chanel Illusion D'Ombre "Illusoire"

Illusion d'Ombre shadows are a new innovation from Chanel makeup maestro Peter Phillips.

These shadows are a cross between a cream and mousse consistency and are a dream to blend. They are available in six shades:

Thanks to thebeautylookbook.com for this image

These shadows work perfectly together or on their own as a wash of colour. The don't crease (even after 10 hours of wear) and add a really sheek touch to makeup looks.

For today's FOTD, I wore the greyish purple shade (I call it grurple) "Illusoire". I used it as a wash of colour over the lid with some eyeliner and mascara. It's a great product to use when you're in a rush and don't have time to blend 3 different shadows...

Subtle and Sheek- perfect for work! AND it only took 5 minutes!

Buy It From: All major Department Stores
RRP: $48

Have any of you tried these shadows from Chanel? I know MAC and Benefit have those "Paint Pot" things... do you guys like them? I'm loving the texture of these shadows... AND NO FALL OUT! EEE!

Keep it Haute!

FOTD Featuring Dior "Stylish Move" Eyeshadow Palette

I bought this GORGEOUS palette from Jess's blogsale and it was love at first sight!

The palette is "Stylish Move" by Dior: a five shadow palette featuring minky / pinky /purply tones. I love purple toned shadows as they bring out the green in my eyes :D These shadows aren't incredibly pigmented, rather they are soft and elegant which is a welcome change to my usual gaudy self.

Taken from Google Images

For this look I used the top right pink colour on the inner corner, the top left minky colour on the outer corner and the bottom right purple for the crease. Please ignore the un-groomed eyebrows :\

I paired the shadows with Rouge Coco Shine in "Royalieu"

Rouge Coco Shine "Royalieu"- it's my favourite Rouge Coco Shine.

It's a rather "pretty" look that went really well with my girly lace top :)

I'm actually really impressed with this palette! Have any of you tried Dior shadows? Which palette should I get next?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Keep it Haute,

L'oreal Colour Riche Serum "Satin Pink" Review- Swatches & Photos

This lipstick is awesome. Just awesome! So awesome, in fact, it doesn't require a fluffed up review.

The formula contains powerful active ingredients that combine to restore density and firmness to the lips:

"

FOTD: Back to Basics: Angelic Nude

At the Australian Beauty Bloggers Weekend just passed, FACE OF AUSTRALIA introduced us to  4 of their new looks:

  • Angelic Nude
  • Baby Doll
  • Sleek Sophisticate
  • Morning After
For today's FOTD I decided to do my take on the "Angelic Nude" look as part of my "Back to Basics" series.

Here's the official photo:

Images courtesy of FACE OF AUSTRALIA and are not to be reproduced, republished or reused. Images remain the property of FACE OF AUSTRALIA

Basically, the look entails natural foundation, lightly flushed cheeks, nude eyes and a soft pink pout.

Because I am me, I can never go without eyeliner and eyeshadow, so I've added that to the look :D I didn't use much powder of concealer to keep the look "real". I know it look slightly different from the official image, I've just adapted it to my tastes and preferences. I need to have defined eyes all the time, lest I look like a 12 year old! :)

Here is my interpretation of the "Angelic Nude" look:

    Face
    Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation
    FACE OF AUSTRALIA Translucent Powder
    Illamasqua Cream Blush in Rude

IRL these shadows were a lot less shimmery and quite matte.
    Eyes
Urban Decay Naked Palette- Half Baked and Smog
    Napoleon Perdis China Doll Eyeliner
    Sublime de Chanel Mascara

    Lips
FACE OF AUSTRALIA Lipstick in Silver Rose

SEE HOW LITTLE PRODUCTS I'VE USED!?

I really like this lipstick- it works perfectly on my skin tone and is really moisturising. PLUS it has SPF 30+!!! Perfect for the harsh QLD summer.

I'd love to see you guys do an "Angelic Nude" interpretation so PLEASE leave me a link in the comments.

What to Take and What to Leave at the Chanel Counter

I've been a Chanel devotee ever since I got my make up done by them for my Year 10 Social Dance. My first purchase was a Glossimer and to this day, I love them so much.

But even I know when to not buy into the hype and to leave the counter empty handed (from years of experience and bad purchases). I've compiled a list of What to Buy and What to Leave at the Chanel counter, so that you're not disappointed with your next high end cosmetic investment.

These are based off my personal purchases and may not be suitable for everyone.

    What To Buy:

L-R: Coco Mademoiselle Parfum, Monte Carlo Rouge Allure, Hydra-Beauty Serum, Illusion d'Ombre and Matt Lumiere

    Skin Care
The amount of research and commitment it takes into producing Chanel skin care is phenomenal. I used to be a skeptic and think it was over-priced, regular creams and potions, but I couldn't be any more wrong.
I got a beauty treatment from Chanel the other week and this was my first time I've ever experienced the skin care products. What can I say... I fell in love.

Did you know: Chanel has saved the Vanilla Bean Madagascan plant from extinction. There were only 8 plants left in the wild when Chanel came in and bought one, turning that one plant into a whole crop. They ethically employ people from the Madagascan community to harvest the crops.

    Foundation
Again, the technology that is involved with Chanel foundations is mind blowing. They are defiantly worth the $80 price tag- I use mine almost three times a day and it lasts for about 4 months. Totally worth it.

    Lipsticks
What can I say really... the pigmentation, colour and moisture levels of Chanel lipsticks are out of this world. They really are they ultimate luxury for any woman. I mean, who doesn't love whipping out a fabulous lipstick, putting it on and feeling 1000 times more glamorous than before?

    Illusion d'Ombre Eyeshadows
The texture of these shadows is SO WEIRD. It's like a spongy sea creature! These shadows DO NOT budge once applied to the eye- I'm being serious. I worked 13 hours in these babies and my shadow was looking fresh and perfect after all that time! PLUS they are shimmery without looking tacky. Really really love these.

    Fragrance
Chanel fragrance is elegant, timeless and sexy- everything I look for in a fragrance. If it's good enough for Marilyn Monroe, then it's good enough for me.

    What to Leave:

    Nail Polish
The colours are easily dupe-able and the formula is not ground breaking. They chip at the same rate as any other polish.

    Powder Eyeshadows
Apparently the formula has changed on the new shadows that are being released, but the previous ones aren't that great. They pigmentation leaves much to be desired and they fall out something chronic. They also crease after about 1.5 hours of wear without a heavy duty eye primer. Many other cosmetic houses have much nicer shadows, for a portion of the price.

    Mascara
With the exception of Sublime de Chanel (it's AMAZING!), Chanel mascaras are a bit of a joke. Just don't go there.

    Powder Foundation
Chanel powder foundation is nice, but not worth the $. There are a plethora of other choices available (FACE OF AUSTRALIA for example) so I recommend looking around.

I hope this is helpful to everyone. As I said before, this is what I personally have experienced- it may not be applicable for everyone.

And just fro fun, here is a look I've created with a Chanel Illusion d'Ombre "Emerveille"

What are your thoughts on purchases high-end cosmetics? Are they worth the money? Or are they just a joke? Let me know! Or do you just want my to shut up about Chanel?

    Keep it Haute!

    I Love Gold FOTD

I do love gold (the colour AND the precious kind). I love it in makeup, as sequins, jewelry, hair colour, skin colour... the list goes on!

So today I did a golden FOTD to match the gold sequins on my top! Here it is:

    Face:
    Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation #8
    Illamasqua Powder Foundation
    Illamasqua Undereye Concealer

    Cheeks
Smash Box Powder Blush in Chiffon
Illamasqua Bronzer in Writhe to Contour
    Elizabeth Arden Highlighting Powder

    Eyes
    Urdan Decay Primer Potion
From UD Naked Palette: Half Baked all over Lid, Smog in Crease
Napoleon Perdis China Doll Gel Liner
    Sublime de Chanel Mascara
Oradess Eye Definer Liner in Black

    Lips
    Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier

    Fragrance
    Britney Spears Fantasy

Oh hello blotchy tan! YOU'VE RUINED MY LIFE! Urgh. Worst. Tan. Ever.

Just quickly as well, please don't forget to lock up when you leave the house. There's been an increase in Break and Enters around Brisbane and I'd be beside myself if anything happened to any of you!
